Employer-based certification – SNT-TC-1A, CP-189 and the ASME Code

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) Code and the corresponding ASTM standards are used worldwide. Their use entails corresponding requirements for the qualification and certification of NDT personnel of a company working within this scope. The ASME BPV Code requires the employer to describe its system for the qualification and certification of its NDT personnel in a Written Practice. The employer itself is the certifying body. As guidance, the ASME BPV Code recommends implementing the minimum requirements of SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT).
